Do you really need a reason to visit Bangkok? Alright. How about we give you twelve?
Bangkok has been constantly ranked amongst the top 5 cities in the world for tourists in the past half decade, and we think these twelve top reasons are just a handful of the hundreds more reasons behind why that is.
#1 – Street Food
Gorge yourself silly on Bangkok’s iconic foods. They are found along the bustling streets of Bangkok and in every corner of their famous markets, which can go on for ever and ever… You get the hint: We bet you can’t complete the quest to ‘Eat all of Bangkok’! There’s just that many mouthwatering goodies to chew on and there is just so much stomach space we have.
Be prepared to get fat. Like real fat.
#2 – Chatuchak Weekend Market
Pit your stamina against the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market sprawl, a shopping phenomenon that has yet to meet its match anywhere in the world! It’s huge, widely-spread and overflowing with stalls. People, whether tourists or the locals, swarm the winding streets and feed their shopping hunger. Filled with goods of quality and quantity that range from high fashion to humble street food, Chatuchak’s got something for every appetite.
No one can possibly resist the temptation of darting in and out of the market sprawl. At Chatuchak, the very idea of ‘window-shopping’ takes leaps right out the window.
Hush now… there’s no shame in over-buying.
#3 – Shopping
There are just too many unique night markets and shopping malls. Expect to see anything from handcrafted items, local designer to international fashion brands. With stuff sold at such cheap and affordable prices, there is just no such thing as “window shopping.”
#4 – Temples
Because Buddhism makes up the majority of religion in Thailand, temples are an abundance in Bangkok. The temples’ unique architectural identity is sure a visual treat! There are over a dozen of famous temples in Bangkok alone. Visit Wat Phra Kaew (The Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) when you are in Bangkok as they are both regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temples in Thailand.
#5 – Night Markets
The recent influx of night markets have been overwhelming. New markets such as Artbox have been drawing many tourist as well as locals and it appears to be on many visitor’s “to-do-list”. When it comes to night markets, we’re pretty sure no one does it better than Bangkok.
#6 – Thai Massage
Well of course, who doesn’t feel great after indulging a full hour of traditional Thai massage at relatively affordable prices. It’s cheap, and good. You can easily find a massage parlour around hotels or shopping malls. If not, have a more luxurious experience at one of the multi-storey massage establishments.
#7 – Rooftop Bars
Great company + drinks = the best nights ever. And theres no better way to do it while overlooking the city’s landscape at any one of these astonishing rooftop bars.
#8 – Nightlife
Bangkok is the premier clubbing destination in Asia, boasting a huge range of mega-clubs and underground haunts. Clubs here open everyday til the wee hours, some even extending to sunrise. Because drinks here are relatively cheaper, get ready to party like a rock-star. It’s no wonder party-goers keep coming back for more!
#9 – Chao Phraya River
A boat ride along the “River of Kings” will cost you 40 baht and you get to marvel at the bustling city, greeted with Buddhist temples and modern skyscrapers. You can find dozens of unique boutique hotels with spectacular views along this huge river. Try staying at one of them for a different experience.
#10 – Tuk Tuk
We all know they’re hella fun and there’s no doubt that Tuk Tuks gives Bangkok a unique charm! Just make sure you know what you’re getting into before you hop on one.
#11 – Ladyboy Cabaret Shows
These talented ladyboys get to showcase their performance for huge crowds every night. Make sure to go with an open mind. After all, where else can you find a Cabaret like this elsewhere?
